ABSTRACT
Distributed generation resources in distribution systems is predicted to play an increasing role in the
electric power system of the near future because of its useful advantages, but it makes several challenges
for distribution systems which must be taken into account. Protection is one of these challenges. In recent
years, with growing concern on digital relays, a wide variety of efforts have been made to develop a
systematic algorithm for solving the problems of distributed generation`s penetration in distribution
systems using adaptive and distributed protection. This paper presents a graph-theoretical method for
achieve an optimal protection system for an arbitrary network configuration from control center. In order
to show the performance of the method, the design of protection systems for a typical single-loop
conventional distribution feeder in presence of distributed generation, has taken as an example. Finally,
the authenticity of method will be examined by DIgSILENT Power Factory 13.2 software.
